SMUG TOOLS at Parlay, Philadelphia

Parlay is a three-day Philadelphia gathering that pulls brands, artists, retailers, creators and community organizers into one city for events, food, music and culture. This year was the fifth Parlay. It was our third.

By year three, you learn the obvious move isn't always the right one. A packed weekend doesn't need another competing event. It needs somewhere to land before the main thing, after the main thing, and in the gaps between.

So that's what we built.

THE RALLY

We started before Parlay officially did, with a pre-Parlay rally at the SMUG TOOLS Shop, hosted with Hi Score League and Office Hours. Think of it as the warm-up lap: get the people who are already in town in one room, put a joint in their hand, and let the weekend start early.

THE CHEESESTEAK SESH

The centerpiece was the SMUG TOOLS Cheesesteak Sesh, our third. We ran it as an afterparty: somewhere to grab a cheesesteak, shop, hang out and keep the night going once everything else closed down.

The cheesesteaks were banging. That's the review. Oregon Steaks.

It's Philadelphia, so nobody was going to let us get away with a bad one, and nobody had to.

There was a Parlay capsule for the occasion: a collaborative tee, a crewneck and a racing cap.

It's Philadelphia. You feed people.

THE REST OF THE WEEKEND

Between our own events, we showed up everywhere else:

  • the Spot Philly Sesh with Hightalian

  • Parlay Central at the Ukie Club

  • Krushmore BBQ

  • the GZ1 House Party

The GZ1 House Party gets a special mention for the gift bags, which were the most unique we've seen.

By the end, the wristbands told the story: Parlay, Krushmore BBQ and an Over 21 band, all crumpled, all kept.

WHAT IT WAS

For SMUG TOOLS, Parlay was less about one event and more about being part of the whole weekend. Three days. One city. One community.

We were there for all of it.
