109 Cheese & Wine and WKNDDRVR give car people a place to arrive, eat and stay interested after the engines stop.
A destination earns its place in a driver’s life when the stop becomes worth planning around. Parking helps. So does a sandwich that justifies the detour. Put automotive art around the tables and you begin to understand the appeal of 109 Cheese Market and WKNDDRVR in Kent, Connecticut.
This is the first in our series on businesses that give car culture somewhere to happen. The brief is simple: find the people doing something useful for enthusiasts, explain what makes their place work, and give readers a reason to go. A brand decal on a window is insufficient. We want the places people return to.
Food people who understand the drive
Monica and Todd Brown own 109 Cheese & Wine. Monica’s background combines wine and cheese expertise; Todd brings an enthusiasm for cars alongside his work on the business’s marketing and storytelling. The combination is visible in the Kent operation, where the gallery shares its home with the food business. [B1]
Ridgefield remains the flagship, with a cheese and gourmet shop and a wine store next door. Kent has its own character. The business’s location history places its first Kent shop on Main Street in 2014, a move to Kent Barns in 2019, the separate WKNDDRVR gallery opening in 2023, and their combination at 6 Kent Green Boulevard in 2024. [B2]
That progression matters. A gallery beside a food counter changes the length and character of a visit. Someone can come for lunch and discover a photograph; someone drawn by the automotive work has a reason to sit down. The shared room gives the conversation somewhere to continue.
The Kent Dispatch’s July 2024 report gives the idea some hardware. It described the Browns’ vintage collection, including a 1942 Dodge pickup carrying the business logo, and reported seating for 22 at the new Kent location. Those are details from the opening period, but they explain the fit: the automotive interest was already personal, and the larger room created space to share it. [B5]
The car community needs places to stop
In a March 2026 statement about WKNDDRVR, Todd described a space for people who enjoy the journey as much as the arrival. The gallery’s then-listed artists included Richard James, Chuck Queener, Steve Klucik, Bryan McCarthy and Lans Christensen. The same post offered breakfast or lunch arrangements for enthusiast groups. Treat that artist list as a dated snapshot, rather than a promise of what is hanging today. [B3]
There is a practical understanding behind that offer. An organized drive needs somewhere a group can land. Food, seating and a reason to walk around make the stop part of the day. A host who understands why everyone arrived separately but wants to eat together saves a lot of awkward explaining.
109 also put the idea on the calendar. Its April announcement advertised five Saturday “Cars & Cheese” gatherings between May and August 2026, from 4–6 p.m., welcoming old and new vehicles and two or four wheels. Those dates are past; they demonstrate the format, not an upcoming invitation. [B4]
The timing has character. A late-afternoon gathering can be the end of a drive rather than a reason to set an alarm. You arrive with something to talk about. The business supplies somewhere to keep talking.
Make the stop count
For a reader, Kent offers a specific proposition: cheese, sandwiches and a room that takes automotive culture seriously without demanding that lunch become a concours. For a business owner, the interesting lesson is how closely the gathering fits the everyday operation. Food and art remain reasons to visit between events.
That is the kind of community business we want to cover. It has an identity before the cars arrive and enough hospitality to make their arrival welcome. The meet strengthens a place that already gives people pleasure.
Find 109 Cheese Market and WKNDDRVR at 6 Kent Green Boulevard in Kent. Check the official website for current hours, food ordering and gathering announcements before setting off. Bring the car you enjoy driving, give yourself time to look around, and leave enough room in the plan for lunch. A drive with a worthwhile stop tends to become a drive you repeat.
